A large part of what makes a good pillow is personal preference. If the pillow is comfortable, is likely to help you relax, sleep well at night, and feel well rested in the morning. The surface of the pillow can also be a source of comfort - some people prefer a pillowcase with a fresh and soft (like cotton), some prefer warmth (such as flannel), etc.
Latex pillows have been solely constructed using latex and have a spongy effect that provides adequate support to your neck. Another advantage of latex pillows is that they maintain a constant temperature providing additional comfort while you sleep. The above mentioned pillow types are few of several others. You may find various other pillows for medical or decorative purposes and pillows using special materials such as foam. If you have trouble sleeping or experience some sort of strain, you should be able to find a specific type of pillow that will alleviate the issues you are experiencing.
A cotton center pillow is another option you might also consider, this kind of pillow tends to be flatter than the other kind of pillows they also don't maintain their shape and therefore don't mold around your head and neck like some of the other types. Although many people really like their cotton pillows because they feel that they let the body rest as it naturally wants to and they will not trade their cotton pillow for anything and also use them faithfully without suffering any neck pain.
Pillows are a constant source of frustration for many. In addition to aggravating the neck, lots of pillows can also affect the shoulder. The shoulder should not be placed at 90 degrees to the mattress, because it can cause spasms in the trapezius muscles.Trapezius muscles perform a variety of actions, including acting as a platform to raise the skull, which is very important to relax during sleep completely. If the shoulder is positioned slightly forward on the mattress in front of the bed, assuming that the mattress can hold this position, the risk of putting pressure on the trapezius and forcing the scapula (shoulder blade) to the column is reduced. By contrast, when in the 90 degree position, sleepers can wake up with neck pain and upper arm and altered sensitivity to little and ring fingers.
