Prior to buying a lamp whether it is desk lamps or table lamps, you should think about the functionality of the lamps. In most of the cases, people overlook or ignore the usage of energy while selecting lamps for their home. If you buy lamps with high wattage, then you will have to bear the burden on huge electricity bills. Nowadays, you can also find lamps that come with an adjustable wattage. Some of the other points that you should bear in mind is that oversized shades can provide diffused and a wider glow, whereas swing arm lamps are suitable for reading. Keep an eye on the price tag as well.
Torchiere. This type is among the easily recognizable varieties of floor lamps. Torchieres are also called torch lamps and were already being used in Europe even as far back as the 17th century. The lighting source then were wax candles that were mounted on tall stands made of metal or wood. Today's version, of course, can be of any lamp type (wax candles, incandescent bulbs, fluorescent light, halogen bulbs, etc.) and any stand material (wood, metal, plastic, composites, alloys, ceramics, etc). Torchieres usually take up only a small space in the room, are shaped unobtrusively, and provide well-diffused lighting by radiating the lamp beams towards the ceiling. For these reasons, torchiere lamps are highly sought after by building owners who intend to optimize limited spaces or project a minimalist style in the interior design.
While antique style lamps are considered works of art with lots of practicality, the same can be said about a number of modern style lamps out there. Modern style lamps are available everywhere (especially online) but you have to look in the right place for the best ones. Antique lamps may be classy and vintage but modern lamps have developed into very unique works of art and engineering. The design aesthetics can be quite unorthodox yet simple. And the functions and technology that go with it have advanced greatly for ease of use. Whether they're custom-made and manufactured, modern style table lamps have incorporated the use of new materials and new technology. Some of the innovations include the use of different glass materials, metal surfaces and other materials that gives them a unique look. With the inclusion of new technology, they can be leaps and bounds ahead of traditional and antique style lamps in terms of practicality. An example of this is the simple kinesthetic touch technology used in some lamps where a person can simply turn it on and off by tapping anywhere on it's body.
A lamp globe, or even a lamp shade in a more common term, is a fixture that covers the bulb on a lamp to diffuse the lighting that it gives off or to block it in certain directions so it does not cause glare by shining straight in one's eyes.
