The valance is a curtain that is used often to cover up rods or other hardware. There are various types of valances such as the waterfall valance, the ascot valance, or an Austrian valance. The type depends on the wanted appearance of the valance to be boxy or to drape across other hanging curtains. They are hung with an additional small rod to cover existing hanging curtains or hung with a bracket that is often attached to a more boxy style valance that surrounds an existing rod with drapes. Valances can also be hung alone above a window for decorative purposes.
The ring-top curtain is hung exactly as the name states. Typically decorative rings are used to attached to a similarly decorated curtain rod. The rings are placed at intervals at the top of the curtain to show an even appearance.
Floor-length curtains are also perfect for bay or picture windows. Massive windows can be given strokes of elegance by decorating it with long length curtains. Extra long curtains that puddle on the floor will enhance the appearance of a romantic room. The bottom portion of the extra long curtains can be allowed to stack on the floor and can be positioned in nice folds. This is a great way of attaching a refined look to a gracefully furnished room.
Off the rack curtains though are inexpensive, but they are available in limited colours and patterns. These curtains are poorly made, and offer a temporary solution to décor your living room. On the other hand, custom made curtains are expensive because of the good chosen fabric, and proper lining style. These curtains take time to be completed, but once they are ready and hanged, they make your room attractive and unique. The lining feature enhances the life of these curtains; you can enjoy seeing them for a long time.
