Another name for a panel bed is a platform bed. These beds are simple and do not have a box spring to hold the mattress in place but a frame instead and are found mainly in the cultures of Asia and Europe. In fact, there are four main types and these are: the Asian, Modern, Zen and metal, wood, leather and a combination type. The differences are mainly in the material that is used to make the bed and how elaborate it is.
As for design, you can never go wrong with a wooden finish. Any type of wood compliments most colour schemes you could think of. They are also sturdier and last longer than metal frames. For youthful rooms, avoid bed frames with engraved accents and elaborate decoration. If you choose a wooden bed with intricate designs, keep your beddings simple and avoid patterns or bright colours.
Panel beds are not very high and are quite close to the floor as they do not require a box spring to support the mattress. Most modern panel beds are available in a variety of materials and combination of materials and of course, their flamboyant designs. Some beds are available with heads and foot boards and some without. This is in keeping with their simple design. You can also create a canopy panel bed by attaching four large posts to the four corners of the bed to enable the handing of an ornate canopy or curtains. Extra storage is provided by the box under the mattress.
